Vehicle gates and pedestrian gates

A vehicle gate is sized for plant, deliveries and vans, and is meant to be opened for a movement and closed again. A pedestrian gate is a single leaf for people on foot. Fitting both is what keeps the vehicle gate shut: where there is no separate walk-through, the large gate gets propped open and access control stops working.

Match the gate to the fence line

A site gate has to suit the barrier it sits in, because the gate posts tie into that run.

• Temporary fencing runs take a temporary fencing vehicle gate or a temporary fencing pedestrian gate, which go up and come down with the rest of the fence.
• Solid steel hoarding takes a steel hoarding vehicle gate or a hoarding pedestrian gate, so the access point keeps the same solid line and height as the hoarding either side.

Before you order

Measure the clear opening the gate has to give, not the gap in the fence, and allow for the posts and for the leaf to swing. Check which way it opens: a gate swinging into the site needs the ground kept clear behind it, and one swinging out needs the footway or carriageway kept clear in front.
