Separating people from vehicles

Most warehouse barrier work is one of two jobs: keeping people out of the path of forklifts and other moving plant, or protecting something fixed from being hit. The two need different products. A walkway edge or a temporary closure can be held with posts, chain or tape. A racking leg, a machine, a doorway or a column needs steel that will take an impact.

Steel protection barriers and hoop guards

The warehouse protection barrier is a 50mm diameter barrier for marking and protecting a line. Hoop guards go around a single object - a column, a door frame, the end of a racking run - so a glancing hit lands on the guard rather than on what it protects.

Hoop guards come in three forms: an outdoor steel hoop guard for yards and loading areas, an indoor version, and light-duty hoop guards where the risk is a trolley or a pallet truck rather than a loaded forklift. All three are offered in three sizes, so measure what is being protected before ordering.

Extending and folding barriers

Extending barriers pull out to close an opening and concertina back when it is needed again. The steel extending barrier is stocked in red and white and in yellow and black. Extendable diamond barriers do the same across an opening, and the extendable cone bar spans the gap between two cones. Black and yellow is the usual marking for a fixed hazard inside a building; red and white reads as a temporary closure, so using both lets people tell the two apart at a glance.

Post and chain systems

Plastic post and chain kits set out a line quickly and move when the layout changes. Kits come as a 4 post set or a 6 post set in a choice of colours, and the folding base kit pairs 4 posts with 10 metres of chain.

Base choice is the decision that matters. Posts are offered with a concrete, rubber or water fillable base: concrete and rubber are ready to use and stay put, water fillable bases travel empty and are filled on site. Folding base posts fold flat for storage, which matters when a line is set up and taken down every day.

Retractable tape barriers

Skipper units carry 9 metres of retractable tape and are the fastest way to close off an aisle, a spill or a maintenance job. Tape colours include orange, blue, yellow, red and silver, so a site can use one colour for a hazard and another for a routine closure.

Two fittings extend the system. The magnetic wall support unit anchors a tape run to steelwork or a shutter without drilling, and the A4 sign holder puts the reason for the closure on the barrier itself.

Pedestrian and utility barriers

Crowd control barriers and utility pedestrian barriers handle foot traffic rather than vehicles. Utility barriers are sold as a kit or as individual pieces, in 750mm and 1 metre widths, so a run can be made up to the length of the opening. A yellow kit and yellow individual pieces are stocked alongside the standard finish.
