Why it works
What it is for
Metallic, not yellow
Metallic pigment gives a reflective gold rather than a flat yellow, which is the difference between reading as gold and reading as paint.
Corrosion resistant
Puts a protective coat down as well as a decorative one, which matters on railings and finials that live outdoors.
Not just for metal
Wood, glass, prepared plastics, concrete and stone all take it, so display and set work is in scope.
Fast drying
Quick enough to recoat and get the piece finished in a session.
Overview
Gold where gilding is not the answer
Real gilding is a skilled trade and priced accordingly, which makes it the wrong answer for a railing tip, a set of letters or an exhibition build that has to be done this week. A metallic gold aerosol gets you the finish at a fraction of the cost and time. It is a decorative coating rather than a heritage one, so it belongs on the work where the look is the point, not on anything that needs to match original gold leaf.

Frequently asked questions
Is it a substitute for gold leaf?
Is it a substitute for gold leaf?
For decorative work, yes, and at a very different price. For heritage or conservation work where the finish has to match original gilding, no - this is a metallic paint and it will not pass for gold leaf next to the real thing.
What surfaces does it go on?
What surfaces does it go on?
Metal, wood, glass, paintable plastics, concrete and stone. All of them need to be clean, dry and free of loose material first.
Can it be used outside?
Can it be used outside?
Yes, and it is described as corrosion resistant, so railings and finials are a normal use. Spray in dry conditions and let it dry before it takes any weather.
Should I lacquer over it?
Should I lacquer over it?
On anything that gets handled or lives outside, a clear lacquer over the top will take the wear instead of the gold. The clear lacquer in this range is made for exactly that.
How big is the can?
