Frequently asked questions
What does this sign's pictogram mean?
What does this sign's pictogram mean?
It combines the standard running-man safe condition pictogram with a flame symbol and the wording "Exit For emergency use only", showing the door is for evacuation only rather than routine access. There is no directional arrow, as the sign does not indicate a specific route.
Which size should I choose?
Which size should I choose?
300mm x 100mm suits doors and corridors viewed close up. 450mm x 150mm reads from a mid-range distance such as a ward corridor, and 600mm x 200mm is easiest to read from further away, for example across a large stairwell or atrium.
Is this sign suitable for NHS premises?
Is this sign suitable for NHS premises?
Yes. It is designed for NHS estate wayfinding and is BS EN ISO 7010 compliant, so it meets the standard expected across hospitals, GP surgeries and other healthcare buildings.
How is the sign fixed in place?
How is the sign fixed in place?
Self-adhesive vinyl fixes with a hi-tack backing, and rigid PVC, foam PVC, photoluminescent PVC and vinyl composite fix with 4 x 5mm drill holes. The vinyl composite version is also available with a horizontal or vertical channel for mounting on a post or bar, in all three sizes.
Does the sign glow in the dark?
Does the sign glow in the dark?
Only the photoluminescent PVC option does. It absorbs ambient light during the day and releases a visible glow if the power fails, so the pictogram and wording stay readable in the dark.
Can this sign be fitted outdoors?
Can this sign be fitted outdoors?
Rigid PVC, foam PVC and vinyl composite are all suitable for exterior use as well as indoors. Self-adhesive vinyl also copes outdoors once it is fixed to a smooth, non-porous surface.
Why does this sign not have a directional arrow?
Why does this sign not have a directional arrow?
The wording marks the door itself as for emergency use only, rather than pointing to an escape route, so no arrow is needed.
