Frequently asked questions

Do I need this tape on every plasterboard joint?

Scrim tape is recommended on all butt and taper-edge joints, and on internal corners, to stop cracking as the board and filler move slightly over time.

Which width should I use?

50mm suits standard board joints and corners. Choose 100mm for wider joints, patch repairs or where you want extra coverage either side of a crack.

Does it need any tools to apply?

No. It is self-adhesive, so it presses straight onto the joint by hand before you apply filler or joint compound over the top.

Is it fire-resistant?

No, this is a standard reinforcement scrim rather than a fire-rated product. It is not a substitute for fire-rated jointing systems.

Will it work in a damp area, like a bathroom?

The fibreglass weave is corrosion resistant and will not break down in damp conditions, though the finished plaster should still be sealed appropriately for wet areas.

Can I paint straight over it?

Once the joint is filled, sanded and dry, it takes paint the same as the surrounding plasterboard - the tape itself is fully covered by the finishing coats.

How long is each roll?

Every roll runs to 90m regardless of width, so you get the same coverage whether you choose 50mm or 100mm.
