Why it works
Clear wording, five materials to choose from
Clear turn instruction
Bold green and white wording tells people exactly how to operate the door, reducing hesitation during an evacuation.
Multiple fixing options
Choose self-adhesive, drill-hole, or (200mm Vinyl Composite) horizontal/vertical channel fixing to suit the mounting surface.
Removes guesswork at the door
The wording explains the action needed on an unfamiliar handle, supporting a faster, calmer exit.
Photoluminescent option
Charges under ambient light and stays visible if the power fails, suited to directional escape signage.
Interior and exterior use
Foam PVC and vinyl composite options are durable enough for exterior use as well as interior fitting.
Overview
Turn Knob to Open Sign - Overview
The Turn Knob to Open Sign is a safe condition sign that instructs people to turn a door knob to open it during an emergency, using clear green and white wording rather than a pictogram. It suits hotels, warehouses, apartment blocks, kitchens and laboratories wherever a door handle needs a clear release instruction during an evacuation.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Turn Knob to Open sign for?
What is a Turn Knob to Open sign for?
It tells people that a door is released by turning the knob or handle rather than pushing a bar or pulling a lever, so there is no hesitation at the door during an emergency.
What size should I use?
What size should I use?
100mm x 100mm suits a door viewed close up, such as inside a room or narrow corridor. 200mm x 200mm reads more easily from further away, for example across a larger space or a stairwell.
Which fixing method should I pick?
Which fixing method should I pick?
Self-adhesive vinyl sticks to a flat, clean surface. Rigid PVC, foam PVC, photoluminescent PVC and vinyl composite fix with 4 x 5mm drill holes, and the 200mm vinyl composite version also comes with a horizontal or vertical channel for a post or bar.
Will the sign still be visible if the lights go out?
Will the sign still be visible if the lights go out?
Only the photoluminescent PVC option is designed for that - it absorbs ambient light and releases a visible glow in the dark. The other materials rely on normal or emergency lighting.
Can I use it outside as well as inside?
Can I use it outside as well as inside?
Rigid PVC, foam PVC and vinyl composite all hold up outdoors as well as indoors. Self-adhesive vinyl is best kept to a smooth, sheltered surface.
Does this sign replace normal fire exit signage?
Does this sign replace normal fire exit signage?
No - it is a supplementary instruction sign for the door hardware itself, fitted alongside, not instead of, the running-man fire exit signs that mark the escape route.
How long will the sign last in daily use?
How long will the sign last in daily use?
Vinyl composite is the toughest option for frequent handling and exterior exposure. Rigid and foam PVC are lighter, lower-cost choices for indoor or sheltered doors.
