Why it works

Why lay this warning tape

Highly visible

Bright red film with bold black print stands out clearly when a trench is opened, giving diggers immediate warning.

Clear pipe identification

Printed CAUTION SEWER PIPE BELOW along the full length leaves no doubt about what lies beneath.

Colour-coded for sewer routes

Red is used on this tape to identify sewer pipe routes, so crews can identify the service at a glance.

Full-length roll

Each roll runs 365m, enough to mark long pipe runs without joining multiple rolls together.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tape include a detection wire?

No, this is a standard printed warning tape with no built-in trace wire, so it won't register on a cable or pipe locator. If you need a detectable option, ask about our detectable underground tape range.

How deep in the trench should this go?

Lay it in the backfill above the sewer pipe, below the final surface layer, so it's the first thing found if the trench is reopened later. Follow your project's or the water authority's own depth specification.

Why is this tape red rather than another colour?

This roll is printed in red for sewer pipe routes. We stock the same tape printed for other underground services in their own colours, including water, gas and electric.

Is 365m enough for one continuous run, or will I need extra rolls?

Each roll runs 365m, which covers most pipe runs from a single length without needing to join rolls.

What's the tape actually made from?

LDPE (low-density polyethylene) film - a lightweight, flexible plastic tape rather than a fabric or foil.

Can this tape be dug up and reused elsewhere?

No, it's designed to be laid once in the backfill and remain buried permanently as a warning marker.

Will the print still be readable years later once it's buried?

Yes - the black print is set into the red film itself rather than a surface label, so it stays legible even after years underground.
