Why it works

Built for fast, anti-clogging surface preparation

Anti-clogging abrasive

Aluminium oxide grit is treated to resist clogging, so the sheet keeps cutting for longer.

Flexible, tear-resistant backing

A resin cloth backing flexes around edges and profiles without tearing in use.

Coarse 60 grit

Suited to fast surface preparation and light stock removal without the very heavy cut of an extra coarse grade.

Frequently asked questions

What is 60 grit emery cloth used for?

It's a coarse grade cloth-backed abrasive for hand sanding metal, plastics and other surfaces - suited to fast surface preparation and light stock removal rather than fine finishing.

Is 60 grit coarse or fine?

60 grit sits between the 40 grit (extra coarse) and 80/120 grit (medium to fine) versions in the same range, giving a fast cut without being as aggressive as the coarsest grade.

What size are the sheets?

Each sheet is 9 x 11 inch nominal, which works out at 270mm x 220mm - tear or fold pieces to suit smaller jobs.

Can I use it to remove rust before painting?

Yes - 60 grit is a good match for removing light surface rust and scale from steel ahead of priming and repainting.

Will it clog on painted or resin-coated surfaces?

No - the aluminium oxide abrasive has an anti-clogging treatment, which keeps it cutting cleanly on painted and resin-coated surfaces.

Should I finish with a finer grit afterwards?

Yes, if you need a smooth surface - follow 60 grit with 80 or 120 grit to refine the finish once the bulk of the material has been removed.

Are other grits available in this range?

Yes - the same sheet is also sold in 40, 80 and 120 grit, so you can move from coarse to fine within the same ProSolve range.
