There is no powder coat on the upright, so a knock from a shelf edge or a trolley does not expose bare steel to a wet room.

Where a painted upright will not last
A powder-coated upright is fine until the coating gets chipped by a shelf edge or a trolley, and then the exposed steel starts to go in a damp room. Stainless removes that failure point because there is no coating to lose. It costs more than the painted versions, so it is worth specifying only where the environment justifies it - kitchens, washdown areas, labs and damp or coastal stores. Everywhere else the silver or white upright does the same job for a fraction of the price.

Two: 1000mm with four fixing holes and 1980mm with six. If you need 430mm, 710mm, 1220mm, 1600mm or 2400mm, those lengths are available in the painted and plated finishes.

Because it is stainless rather than powder-coated steel. In a dry stockroom that premium buys you nothing, so specify silver or white there. In a kitchen, wet room or coastal store it is the difference between a bay that lasts and one that starts to corrode at the first chip.

The finish is bare stainless rather than a coating, so it stands up to cleaning far better than a painted upright. Follow your own site cleaning procedure for the brackets and shelves you pair it with.

No. The Dupont Alesta AM anti-microbial powder coat is on the painted uprights. This one is a bare stainless finish, so there is no powder coat on it at all.
