A cut worktop exposes bare chipboard, which swells the first time it gets wet. The joint seals that edge behind aluminium.

At 630mm it runs the full depth with a little to trim off, rather than leaving a gap at the back.

Sealing the cut edge
A corner is where a laminate worktop run is most likely to fail. Two cut edges meet, the joint sits under whatever gets spilled on it, and the chipboard core is a few millimetres away behind a laminate skin. A jointing strip does three things at once: it hides a cut line that will never be perfect, it seals the gap, and it puts a 4mm aluminium wearing surface where two edges would otherwise be knocking against each other.

It is pre-drilled, so it screws to the cut edge of the worktop. Most fitters bed it on a thin line of sealant as well, which keeps water out of the chipboard core.

An end cap finishes an exposed cut end at the end of a run. This joint goes between two worktops where the run turns a 90 degree corner. They are not interchangeable.
