Why it works

Why trim the edge

Covers the raw core

A cut worktop exposes bare chipboard, which swells the first time it gets wet. The joint seals that edge behind aluminium.

Sized for a 600mm worktop

At 630mm it runs the full depth with a little to trim off, rather than leaving a gap at the back.

Seals the join

A corner join sits where water collects. The strip and a bead of sealant keep it out of the chipboard.

Quieter across the surface

A corner strip is always in view. Satin silver reads as a detail rather than a hard black line across the run.
Overview

Sealing the cut edge

On a corner joint the strip runs right across the working surface, so unlike an end cap it is always in view and always being wiped over. That makes the finish choice more than cosmetic: satin silver disappears against light laminates and stainless fittings, where a black strip draws a hard line across the middle of the run. Underneath it is the same job - hide an imperfect site cut, seal the gap, and put 4mm of aluminium where two chipboard edges would otherwise meet.

Frequently asked questions

What does the "12mm Standard" mean?

It is the shape of the worktop's front edge. Postformed worktops come with different front-edge profiles, and the trim has to match yours or it will not sit flush. Check the front edge of your worktop before ordering.

What worktop thickness does it fit?

30mm or 40mm. Standard kitchen worktops are usually 38mm to 40mm, and 30mm is the slimmer option, so measure yours rather than assuming.

Why is it 630mm when my worktop is 600mm deep?

So there is something to trim. Worktop depths vary a little and a run is rarely perfectly square to the wall, so the extra 30mm gets cut off on site for a clean fit.

What is it made from?

Aluminium, 4mm thick, in a hardwearing easy-clean finish.

How does it fix on?

It is pre-drilled, so it screws to the cut edge of the worktop. Most fitters bed it on a thin line of sealant as well, which keeps water out of the chipboard core.

What is the difference between this and an end cap?

An end cap finishes an exposed cut end at the end of a run. This joint goes between two worktops where the run turns a 90 degree corner. They are not interchangeable.

Does the worktop need cutting at an angle?

The two lengths are cut square and butted, and the strip covers the join. A mitred or masons joint is a different method that does not use a strip at all.
