Why it works
Why anti slip
Hazard colour with grip in it
Yellow already means take care on a floor. This version adds the texture so the marked area is also the safe one to stand on.
Grip built into the paint
Fine aggregate is blended through the coating, so the texture is the surface rather than something scattered on top that wears off.
Works wet
Texture is what gives grip when a surface is wet, which is when a smooth painted floor is at its most dangerous.
Still a full floor coating
Solvent, salt, water and abrasion resistance on top of the grip, so it protects the floor as well as the people on it.
Overview
The safety colour, in the smaller tin
Anti slip in yellow is nearly always used for marking rather than for covering, which is why it comes in 2.5 litres rather than five. Step nosings, ramp edges, the band across the top of a loading dock - these are all small areas where the grip and the warning need to be in the same place. Buying five litres for a job that needs one is how half-full tins end up going off in a store cupboard.

Frequently asked questions
How does the anti-slip work?
How does the anti-slip work?
A fine aggregate is blended into the paint, so the dried surface has texture in it rather than being smooth. That texture is what gives grip, including when the floor is wet.
Can I use it outside?
Can I use it outside?
Yes, it is rated for interior and exterior use, which is what makes it the usual choice for ramps, external steps and loading bay edges.
How much will one tin cover?
How much will one tin cover?
That depends on the surface. A textured coating on bare or porous concrete goes a lot further on the second coat than the first. Work out your area and order a spare tin rather than stopping halfway across a ramp.
Does the floor need preparing?
Does the floor need preparing?
Yes, and it matters as much here as with any floor paint. Clean, dry, sound, and free of oil, grease, dust and loose coating. The aggregate gives grip on top, but the bond underneath is what keeps the whole thing on the floor.
Is it hard to clean?
Is it hard to clean?
A textured floor holds dirt more than a smooth one, which is the trade you make for grip. It is worth reserving anti-slip for the areas that genuinely need it - ramps, steps, wet areas - and using a smooth industrial floor paint elsewhere.
How does it compare to adding grit to normal floor paint?
How does it compare to adding grit to normal floor paint?
This has the aggregate already blended in, so it is one product and a consistent finish. The separate anti-skid grit additive lets you add grip to a colour of standard floor paint that is not made as an anti-slip, and lets you vary how much grip you get.
Why is the yellow only 2.5 litres?
Why is the yellow only 2.5 litres?
Because yellow anti slip is nearly always used for marking rather than coating - nosings, edges and bands rather than whole floors. Five litres would be more than most of those jobs need. If you do need a larger quantity in yellow, get in touch.
