Frequently asked questions

What does the arrow on this sign mean?

The downward arrow shows that the extinguisher is fixed below the sign, or further along the route in the direction the arrow points, so people can find it without searching.

How is this different from the plain fire extinguisher sign?

This version adds a directional arrow. Use it where the extinguisher is not directly visible from where the sign is seen, for example above a stairwell or around a corner, and use the plain pictogram where the extinguisher is right next to the sign.

What sizes are available?

The sign comes in 300mm x 100mm and 450mm x 150mm. Choose the smaller size for close-up fixing indoors and the larger size where it needs to be read from further away.

Which material should I pick?

Self-adhesive vinyl and rigid PVC suit most indoor and outdoor walls. Foam PVC is lightweight, vinyl composite is fully waterproof, and photoluminescent PVC charges in ambient light so it stays visible in a power cut.

Can I fix this sign to a post or barrier?

Yes. The vinyl composite option is available with a horizontal or vertical channel, designed for fixing to single or multiple posts, or to horizontal bars such as car park barriers and gates.

Is this sign suitable for outdoor use?

Rigid PVC, foam PVC and vinyl composite are all suitable for exterior fixing as well as indoor use.

Do fire safety signs need to point to every extinguisher on site?

Directional signage is standard practice wherever an extinguisher is not immediately visible from the route people would take in an emergency, and this sign is designed for exactly that purpose.
