The coat that decides whether the floor lasts
Floor coatings almost never fail in the film. They fail at the bond, and the usual reason is that a top coat went straight onto a bare, porous or dusty slab that had nothing solid to hold on to. A penetrating primer solves that by soaking into the surface and binding it, so the top coat is keying into a sealed, consistent base rather than into loose concrete dust. It is the cheapest part of the job and the part that decides how long the rest of it lasts.

On bare, porous, dusty or previously uncoated concrete, yes. That is where floor coatings fail, and they fail at the bond rather than in the paint. On a sound, sealed, previously painted floor in good condition you may not need one.

5 to 10 square metres per litre, so 25 to 50 square metres per 5 litre tin. The range is that wide because porosity varies enormously - a tight power-floated slab is at the top of it, an old dusty one at the bottom.

It is touch dry in 2 to 4 hours and ready to recoat after 24 hours. Do not rush the recoat - the primer needs to have gone off properly for the top coat to bond to it.
