Setting out and survey marking is writing, not drawing. A chainage, a depth, an arrow showing which way a service runs - all of it has to be legible to whoever turns up next with a digger. That is what the narrow spray pattern is for, and it is the single thing that separates a survey spray from the cheaper general marking cans. The spray pattern. Survey spray is narrow, for writing characters, arrows and dimensions that need to be read. Site marker and line marker have a wider pattern for lines and areas. If you are annotating the ground, use this. If you are drawing lines and bays, use those.
