Why it works

Why lay this warning tape

Highly visible

Bright green film with bold black print stands out clearly once a trench is opened, giving diggers an immediate warning.

Clear main identification

Printed CAUTION RISING MAIN BELOW along the full length leaves no doubt about what lies beneath.

Colour-coded for the route

Green marks this tape out from our other underground warning tape colours, so crews can identify the service at a glance.

Full-length roll

Each roll runs 365m, enough to mark a long rising main route without joining multiple rolls together.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tape have a trace wire for locating?
No, this is a print-only warning tape with no metal trace element, so it will not register on a cable or pipe locator. If you need a detectable option, see our detectable underground tape and mesh ranges.

What depth should it be buried at?
Lay it within the backfill above the rising main, below the finished surface, so it is the first thing exposed if the trench is reopened. Follow your project's or the utility's own depth requirement.

Why is a rising main marked in green?
Green is used on this roll to flag the pipe route; we stock the same style of tape printed for other services in their own standard colours, so check you have the right one for the pipe you are marking.

Is one roll enough for a full run?
Each roll runs to 365m, which is enough to mark most rising main runs from a single length without joining rolls.

What's the tape made from?
LDPE (low-density polyethylene) film - a thin, flexible plastic tape rather than a fabric or foil.

Can the tape be dug up and reused?
No. It's meant to be laid once during backfill and left buried as a permanent warning marker.

Will the print still be legible after years underground?
Yes - the warning text is printed into the film itself rather than applied as a surface label, so it stays legible once uncovered.
