Why it works

Why a heat resistant coating

Rated to 600C

Stays on a manifold, a stove body or a flue at working temperature instead of blistering off on the first cycle.

Resists flaking and chipping

Holds together through heat cycling, which is what usually breaks a coating on a component that runs hot and then cools.

Fixes what is already there

Rusty manifolds and tired stove bodies can be cleaned back and recoated rather than replaced.

Black

The colour almost everything in this category was originally finished in, so a recoated part looks right rather than obviously touched up.
Overview

Where ordinary paint fails

A manifold gets hot enough to glow. A stove body and a flue run several hundred degrees for hours at a time. Ordinary acrylic on either one blisters, browns and then burns off, usually on the first proper heat cycle, and what you are left with is worse than bare metal. A 600C coating is formulated to sit at those temperatures without moving. Preparation matters more here than on any other paint in the range - oil and grease that would be a cosmetic problem elsewhere will cook off underneath the coating and lift it.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature will it take?

It is rated to 600C.

What can I use it on?

Exhaust manifolds, downpipes, engines and engine bay parts, wood burners, stoves and flue pipes, and other metalwork that runs hot.

Does it need curing?

Read the can and follow what it says. Heat resistant coatings normally need to be brought up to temperature to reach their full rating, and a coating that has not been cured properly will not perform to the number on the tin.

How should I prepare the surface?

Clean back to sound metal and degrease thoroughly. Oil and grease that would be a cosmetic problem with an ordinary paint will cook off under a heat coating and lift it, so this is the one product in the range where preparation is not optional.

Can I use it on a barbecue or a fire basket?

It is a high-temperature metal coating and those are in the same category of use. For anything that will be in direct contact with food, check the can and the manufacturer's guidance first - we cannot advise on food contact from the data we hold.

Is it available in other colours?

This listing is black, which is what almost everything in this category was originally finished in. If you need another colour at this temperature rating, ask us and we will check what is available.

Will the ordinary gloss black work on an exhaust?

No. The standard acrylic gloss in this range is not a heat resistant coating and will blister and burn off. Use this one.
