Frequently asked questions

How much load can the grating take?

The panels are certified to BS EN 124 Class A15, which covers pedestrian areas and light wheeled traffic. For heavier loading, the 38mm and 50mm thick panels carry a higher rating.

Can it be cut to size?

Yes. We cut panels to bespoke sizes in-house with a tolerance of +/- 5mm, and you can also trim them on site with a hacksaw or jigsaw and a suitable blade.

Is it suitable for wet or chemical areas?

Yes. The fibreglass is chemical, rust and corrosion resistant, and the gritted surface is slip tested to BS 7976.2 for wet, dry, oily and greasy conditions.

What sizes and colours are available?

Five sheet sizes from 996mm x 996mm up to 3660mm x 1220mm, each in green, grey or yellow. Custom colours may be available on request.

Is it safe to use near electricity?

Yes. GRP is non-conductive for both standard and high-voltage electrical environments, and it is flame retardant to BS 476 Part 7 Class 2.

How do I fix it down?

Fixing clips and clamps are available separately - C clips, M clips, J clamps and 45mm square fixing clips - to secure the grating to the supporting structure.

How long does it last?

The grating has a design life of over 10 years and is rated from -50 to +110 degrees C. Regular inspection is recommended to check the fixings and monitor wear.
