Buried cable, marked and ready

Highly visible

Bright purple film with bold black print stands out clearly once a trench is reopened.

Clear cable warning

Printed CAUTION STREET LIGHTING CABLE BELOW along the full length gives an unmistakable warning before anyone digs into the cable route.

Colour-coded for street lighting

Purple is the colour used across the utilities sector to mark street lighting cable routes, so crews can identify the service at a glance.

Full-length roll

Each roll runs 365m, enough to mark long cable runs without joining multiple rolls together.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tape have a metal trace wire for detection?

No, this is a standard warning tape without a built-in detection wire. If you need a tape that shows up on a cable locator, ask us about our detectable underground tape range instead.

How deep should I bury it?

Lay it in the backfill above the cable, before the final surface layer, so it's the first thing found if the trench is reopened. Follow your project's or the network operator's own depth specification.

Why is this tape purple?

Purple is the colour used across the utilities sector to mark street lighting cable routes specifically, distinct from the yellow used for general electric cable. We also stock this tape in other colours for water, gas and other underground services.

What tools should I use when digging near a marked cable?

Once this tape is found, switch to hand digging with insulated tools rated to BS8020 rather than continuing with a mechanical digger, to reduce the risk of striking a live cable.

How long is each roll and can I join two together?

Each roll is 365m long, so most cable runs can be marked from a single roll without a join.

What is the tape made from?

LDPE (low-density polyethylene) film, chosen for its strength and tear resistance when pulled from the roll and laid in a trench.

Is this the same tape as the standard street lighting warning tape?

It carries the same construction and print message, but this roll is purple rather than the standard colour - check the listing title matches the colour you need before ordering.
