Heavy Duty Flow Plate for cars and HGVs
The Heavy Duty Flow Plate is a surface-fixed, one-way traffic control plate built from 10mm heavy gauge chequer steel. A high tensile spring-action hinge lowers the flap as a vehicle passes over in the permitted direction, then returns it upright to block the reverse route. The reduced flap height and heavier plate rate it for HGVs as well as cars, and it bolts straight to tarmac or concrete with no civils or drainage work.
Key features
-
Rated for cars and HGVs - reduced flap height and 10mm heavy gauge chequer steel take repeated heavy goods vehicle traffic.
-
Bolts to tarmac or concrete - 8 fixing bolts per plate, with concrete fixings included.
-
No civils or drainage required - surface fixed, so it can be installed or relocated without breaking up the road.
-
High tensile spring-action hinge - OilLite bush hinge system returns the flap upright after each pass.
-
High-visibility yellow - powder coated chequer plate stays clearly visible to approaching drivers.
-
Suits multi-storey car parks - surface fixed, so it will not penetrate a waterproof membrane.
Where it is used
- Enforcing one-way vehicle traffic on roads, yards and access routes
- Controlling HGV and car access at depots and distribution sites
- Alongside speed humps and warning signage as part of a wider traffic scheme
- Multi-storey car parks and covered areas
- Highways, construction and utilities sites needing a relocatable one-way control
Coverage - plates needed per road width

Installation
The plate fixes to both tarmac and concrete. On tarmac, use rubber expanding bolts once the surface is at least 6 months old with 50mm of asphalt depth; on newly laid tarmac, or where the surface is unsuitable, lay a concrete raft first. Set plates out in a staggered layout rather than a single straight line, as this spreads vehicle loading and extends plate life. Vehicles should drive straight over the plate rather than turning on it, and pedestrian use is not recommended without additional warning signage.
